Central to an art education is the hands-on approach to experiential learning. Visual art class is a process of experimentation and discovery through doing and making. Through these experiments with various mediums, techniques, and processes, students develop not only technical skills but also a deeper understanding of artistic concepts and self-expression.
My art room facilitates learning by embracing the philosophy of creative play, which asserts that deeper emotional engagement and rich sensory experiences, enhance the learning process. Curriculum connects to students though cultural relevance and personalization making for meaningful and engaging projects. Autonomy and choice are scaffolded to empower students, giving them a sense of ownership and opportunity for intrinsic motivation in their learning. I meet every student where they are in their own growth and development, adapting my approach to support their unique needs and helping them progress at their own pace, while upholding high standards to ensure each one achieves their full potential.
